As a native New Jerseyan I couldn't wait to try out the new New York Style bagel shop downtown called Bagel Crust. I went on their second day of business so I expected there to be a longish wait and other bumps along the way. Although, I did not expect all of what I experienced. My friend and I walked in just in time because they ended up shutting the doors and 11:30 am. Why do you ask? Well they ran out of bagels...Yes how does a bagel shop run out of bagels when it is still the morning. They only had a few cinnamon raisin bagels left, which I didn't mind too much. Once I finally got to the register about a 20 minutes later, I ordered taylor ham, egg and cheese, on a cinnamon raison bagel. I was asking people in front of me how long they have been waiting for their food and they said it had been over an hour. Orders were forgotten and they were slowly running out of just about every ingredient. Clearly they underestimated the hungover population of State College. I was watching the employee make my bagel and noticed that he took an already made bagel and wiped the cream cheese off the bagel and put my breakfast sandwich on top of it. I saw the chef hand the bagel to the cashier and told him to make sure he mentioned to me that cream cheese was taken off it. The cashier handed me the bagel and the only thing he said was to give it back if I'm not satisfied. At this point of waiting almost an hour for my bagel, I wasn't going to complain. When I finally indulged in my breakfast sandwich I was not that impressed. Being that the bagels are homemade and made on site they were the best quality in State College, but they were very small. I understand I'm not in New Jersey (home of the perfect taylor ham, egg, and cheese), but all I ask for is rather quick service and fresh food. Not a leftover bagel with cream cheese wiped off. I did receive a free voucher to come back at a later date to compensate for the mayhem that went on that day.

Finally, good bagels in Stage College. These bagels are awesome and fresh. My Asiago this morning was still warm.

Everyone knows this is the best bagel place in State College, PA. That's why it's always packed, despite the strange three star rating. The bagels and cream cheese are better than elsewhere. And they have Franks Red Hot.

The food was really good and the price was reasonable. However, the person at the register was not so helpful and didn't have knowledge of the bagels. However my inner foodie and NY friend told me... These bagels are top notch! So good!!! Go for the bagels and fries, not for the cashier. The family atmosphere was apparent and I really enjoyed how sincerely nice they were! :)

The bagels here are the best in town by a landslide. The breakfast sandwiches are made with real griddle cooked eggs. They have ironed out many of the service kinks, but the bagels are so good, lines can get long. Skip the line and order on Square. Your order will be ready when you get there.

A several people complained about service or waiting time....thats the true NY experience guys. Waiting in line for a half hour just to be greeted with a not-so-happy "next!" Is the New York.....as long as the food is awesome and worth it. By far this place has the best bagels in town and serves Boars Head as well, making it well worth the wait and soup-nazi stare. **When the students are gone the perfect storm of good food and no wait does actually happen** ***I am rating it a 4 because it really is an amazing place for bagels in SC. It is more like a 3 on my universal bagel scale***

I tried this place for the first time the other day upon recommendation from my roommate. The prices are cheap-fair, even by college student standards, and the food was really good. Definitely a solid addition to downtown.

I stopped in a few weeks back, and the bagel I got was good. Nothing mind-blowing, but ok. But, after returning today and experiencing some of the worst management and customer service of my life, I can honestly say no matter the quality I will never return to Bagel Crust. I knew going in that it would likely be crowded, given that it's move-in weekend. But taking a while to order wasn't the problem...the line moved fast enough, and the girl at the register was nice and apologized for the wait. But after placing our order (two BCE bagel sandwiches - a pretty standard order), we ended up waiting over 20 minutes before I had to move up to the counter and ask where our order was. After the guy at the counter went looking for our order and making a pretty lame excuse about our order being difficult (an excuse he gave to at least one other customer while we were on line), he then picked up two sandwiches that had been sitting forgotten about on the counter for 10 MINUTES and handed them to me. I pointed this fact out since I was pretty ticked off at this point. He responded by mumbling an apology, shrugging his shoulders and saying there was nothing else he could do. I'm not sure exactly what I said at that point (pretty sure it wasn't complimentary), and he responded to it with an extremely argumentative tone. At that point, I just left. It wasn't worth getting into it further. I get that it's a new place, and they're probably understaffed, but customer service is a basic thing. If you screw something up, own up to it, give a sincere apology, and try to rectify it somehow, perhaps with a refund offer or a coupon. The response I received was a total insult and made a negative situation even worse.

Crap location, crap service, crap lettuce & tomato, and crap smell. Bagels are ok, but for the over-promoted reviews of this place on local media, the bagels don't live up to the hype. I can get better bagels from Panera. Any ways, I stopped in to try them for lunch. I arrived about 12:15pm and they were packed from counter to door with students. I thought, "ok, they might be really good if they have this much business". Well, I was completely wrong in that initial assessment. The closer you get to the counter, the more your clothes are going to stink for hours afterwards thanks to their insufficient ventilation system. It smelled like someone didn't know what they're doing when they designed the place. Worse, the cooks must have burned who knows how many bagels over the last 15 minutes. The line was long, to the door, so it took 10 minutes just to place my order, but only may be 5 minutes to get it. But this wasn't a long line in number of people (may be 5 in front of me), but long in terms of space, because this shop is SMALL! No where to really sit when they're busy. I ordered two different bagels to check this place out: a salami sandwich with lettuce and tomato, and a PB&J bagel. The lettuce from the salami sandwich was turning brown. Worse, the tomatoes felt and tasted like they'd been accidentally frozen then thawed. It was a mess. The PB&J was ok, but they didn't put much PB nor J on the bagel, and the wrapper they had it in was covered in PB, as if the line prep person wiped their hands all over it when they're done. A big disappointment. See photos of both of these miserable orders. Their bagel selection was extremely limited. They had no Asiago when I arrived. And from looking over their bins, half of the bagel types were gone. This is right at the peak of lunch time and they don't know how to keep their bagels in stock? Very sad. Then there's the service. Wow. It's bad. The girl taking my order was nice, but completely clueless. When I was giving her my order, she interrupted me to ask questions I already answered in the order. Then she blurted out, "we don't have salami". Really? I replied, "but it's right there on the board". She said, "oh yeah, there it is" and put my order through. The guy at the pick up counter had a major attitude, as if he didn't want to ever be there in the first place. He put my order on the counter. No bag, no nothing in which to carry it. I asked, "could I get this in a bag?" He pulled out a stack of paper bags from below, and handed me. Folded. He didn't offer to bag it for me. He didn't even bother to open the bag for me. What a jerk. Bagel Crust, I'm a local, so I would have been one of your regular customers in that desperate, dry season when all of the students leave town. But no, my experience was bottom-of-the-barrel bad. I would never, ever visit this location again.

Great food but need to get their orders straight. This is the second time they've screwed up my order. Yesterday they completely messed it up by giving me something completely wrong and today they gave me the wrong bagel. Furthermore, they would have put additional topping and charged me more for my food unless I had looked at my receipt and realized they screwed up even putting the order into the system. They need to take some time to train their staff so they don't continue this trend.

Warning: If you are under time pressure, stay away from Bagel Crust!! After being a repeat customer for many months, enjoying the best bagels around State College but with very lucrative service, I'm throwing in the towel. Although they may have not yet been open even a year, one would think the crew behind the counter would get their game together. The service is slow, impersonal, and unprofessional. I hate to tarnish a good bagel in a place where it's hard to find, but after going to return my order twice in 30 minutes, I became fed up and had to help other Yelpers. Having personally worked in a bagel shop in New Jersey, I have first hand knowledge of the morning rush, especially on weekend mornings and around the holidays. Bagel Crust has not even mastered a basic morning rush. It is not uncommon that I have waited around, with others around me doing the same, for 10-15 minutes at least for a simple bagel with egg and cheese. This order, back home, would take a matter of a few minutes, and without all of the grease and uncut bagel. To end my rant, I would have much hope for Bagel Crust if they can improve, without even mastering, the art of customer service and speedy delivery. The bagels are good, business execution is poor. How come with all the New Yorkers and New Jerseyans, we cannot get a decent bagel establishment? Maybe one tip that would make everything more efficient, ditch the digital ordering system and iPad and use quick old pen and paper.

I've given this place chance after chance, and I think today was the last one it will get. When it first opened, I was impressed with my BEC on a cinnamon raisin bagel with home fries regardless of the 30 minutes wait to get it. When I returned in December, the cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese i ordered would have barely passed for a plain bagel. I'm not even kidding it looked like they mixed in a small amount of raisins into a plain bagel just to make it pass. It was one of the worst bagels I've ever had and I've had some pretty bad ones. It was almost WHITE in color and had no flavor to it at all. I haven't ordered another cinn. raisin from there since. But today really rubbed me the wrong way and will probably put an end to me being one of their customers. The man at the register had no idea what he was doing. I ordered a Baja California sandwich in a wrap - not a roll. I asked if i could use a 15% discount, gave him the coupon, and he forgot to add it to the actual total. So I had to remind him before he swiped my card again - but no big deal he apologized, it happens. We waited about 5 minutes since it wasn't crowded. My friend and I were watching the women in the back assemble our order. She had asked for hers to be toasted, which they had not done. So she asked for them to do so. I was watching the woman make my order and noticed it wasn't a wrap, so I asked her to make that change as well. But she didn't make the change and just handed me the carton. I told her that my order was incorrect, and she had a hard time understanding why. And so did the man at the counter. When they finally realized that they had made me a sandwich instead of the wrap I ordered, they told me that they are out of wraps for the time being....after they had already charged me for it and prepared it incorrectly. I understand that being out of stuff is out of their control (assuming they were not in charge of inventory....) but I was very annoyed that the cashier didn't let me know from the get-go that they were out. I would've ordered something else. So I said it was okay and went home to eat my sandwich. I took a few bites and realized they forgot the avocado - which is the prime reason I ordered the WRAP in the first place.....the lettuce was also browning and definitely bad so that was pretty unappetizing. I always served food myself under the belief that if I wouldn't eat it, I would not serve it. I guess they aren't very concerned about that. Positives - the chicken on the sandwich was really tasty and the bread ended up being pretty good too so I'll cut my losses with the wrap. Also, I highly recommend the macaroni salad. It is probably the only thing I will return there for if i ever do. Overall, I noticed a lot of poor reviews on this place on Yelp. It's disappointing that the management hasn't taken charge and made the changes that clearly need to be made.

Customer service sucks here. They put a sign up saying "will open at 11" so I wait outside in the freezing cold and then they just walk out and change the sign to "11:30". No sorrys or explanations from manager. Then at 11:30 a crowd of 10+ people waiting outside and they still don't open the doors. It was literally 25degrees and so rude how they couldn't let us in or explain.
